We believe that words count. Especially the written word must be accurate for clear communication.

We met in 1999 while working at the Salzburg Global Seminar in Austria. We both attended Middlebury College in Vermont, although at different times, and we are both passionate about clear communication. That is pretty much where our similarities end. But our strengths are complementary and our senses of humor compatible, and at this moment in our lives we are both qualified for and interested in devoting our energies to clarifying the written word. We work with authors to develop or refine text to convey the writer’s meaning clearly.

Now we are doing that together at Words Count.

Anna Glass

Anna worked for national and international organizations throughout Europe, including the Austrian Ministry responsible for education in Vienna and Eurydice in Brussels, until she attained the position of Chief of Section for Higher Education at UNESCO in Paris. When the US pulled funding from the Organization in 2011, Anna left UNESCO and, aside from a short stint as interim Secretary General of the Magna Charta Observatory in Italy, turned primarily to writing and editing texts on international higher education and sociology, first for the OECD in Paris and eventually as an independent contractor. Anna’s academic training began with studies in French, German, and English literature at Middlebury College, Vermont (US), after which she moved to Austria to manage higher education programs for Eastern Europe and Russia at the Salzburg Global Seminar. From there, she pursued an MA in international higher education at the University of Bath (UK) and later undertook a PhD in the sociology of higher education at Boston College (US) and then the Institute of Education, University College London (UK). Through experience and training, Anna has expanded her editing repertoire to include history, literature and contemporary fiction, early learning development, and the arts.
